Poll Finds Americans For Healthcare Reform

Polls done by the Kaiser Family Foundation each month track public opinion regarding health care and health insurance. Results from these can be eye opening, and provide an opportunity to observe where the public stands on these issues.

This April poll was reported by Medical News Today, some of the results are: 59% say the health care reform is becoming more important now, 36% avoided regular office visits to doctors or dentists due to high costs, 26% had an individual within their home who struggled with health care bills this past year, 71% would be OK with having taxes raised on high income American to help pay for health care reform, 67% strongly or somewhat favor some type of national health insurance plan to provide competition with private plans.

Health care and health insurance reform are obviously becoming much more important to the American people as the days pass. There are also a large number of Americans becoming more in debt with the rising cost of health care.

The political process is thrilled to see these results as it helps them in their goal for health care reform. With the majority seemingly on their side, according to the Kaiser poll, there's a possibility for history making legislation regarding a far reaching health care reform.

Polls are very subject to change depending on the whims of time. They give a good glimpse of current opinion but these opinions can change, especially if the economic crisis deepens. Then of course, the Democrats and Republicans have some disagreements on the approach to solving the issues in health care.

Imagine working in a machine shop with those ear shattering machines constantly creating those loud noises and going around for 8 hours a day unprotected. Do you honestly think that you can subject your ears to that kind of damaging noise and not suffer some consequences?

The same thing can be said for people who either work in a concert setting or who often attend them. Get a good set of earplugs to wear during the events and you will very likely prevent this condition from developing. Everyone knows how loud the music is at a concert and even though you are wearing ear plugs, the music will still get through, just not as loudly and therefore reducing the risk of you getting tinnitus.

A major cause of tinnitus that many people overlook is stress. What else is new though? Stress has been proven to make you susceptible to just about every other condition or disease that you can think of so it is actually no surprise that tinnitus is added to the list. You are going to have to find a way to eliminate the stress in your life or at least lessen it if you want to prevent tinnitus.

What everyone needs to realize is that tinnitus is something that we often allow ourselves to develop. In most cases, there is no cure for tinnitus and you are stuck with whatever damage that you get as a result.

There are ways to control the effects and get help for tinnitus, but more importantly there are plenty of ways in preventing this from ever happening and everyone needs to be a little more aware of these and not put themselves at risk of getting tinnitus.

Contracting Dental plan insurance

Other Authors: Dental Jet. Any family should use a dental plan insurance in order to enjoy a good oral health permanently and without medical and financial troubles. Because of too low wages, lots of people cannot buy a dental plan insurance or get one that leaves them under-covered. This is both unfortunate and sad because dental insurance plays a paramount role in the preservation of a good general health condition. The use of a dental plan insurance becomes undoubtedly advantageous from the financial perspective too, since dental care prices keep getting higher.

It would be pretty difficult to cover dental treatments out of personal savings. This could in fact be the path to a real debt burden.

You should visit the doctor twice per year for preventive checkups, as the costs are covered by the dental plan insurance. Then, should you be in need of an emergency dental intervention or should you need surgery, dental insurance coverage will make them more affordable as you'll share the costs of the treatments with the insurer. In order to understand how a dental plan insurance works we need to mention the fact that there are presently hundreds of companies providing insurance services. In extent for a premium or a monthly fee paid to such an insurance provider, you can get access to all sorts of dental procedures.

Most of the times, complex dental interventions will involve a co-payment, meaning that your dental plan insurance covers part of the treatment, and you pay the rest of the sum out of your pocket. Normally, based on the insurance agreement there is a maximum coverage the insurance includes, and the exceeding amount will be paid by you directly. The kinds of interventions included in one plan or another differ precisely on the basis of the contract clauses.

Dental plan insurance covers most of the regular dental cleanings. The difference is remarkable when we talk about crowns or fillings that are not covered entirely, although the costs are affordable because of the insurance. Things get more complex in the case of tooth replacements, non-cosmetic oral surgeries and other special interventions.

There is only a partly coverage of the service as offered by insurance company, but only when a dental plan insurance has been chose and the monthly fee has been paid. All in all, without insurance, dental care costs could be enormous and highly not-affordable for the average person.

The Symptoms of Bipolar

There may be occasions when we feel happy for no apparent reason and want to sing and dance for joy. There are also times when all of us feel melancholic or sad. Mood swings are present in a lot of people but they do not happen everyday and not without reason. But in cases where people are ecstatic one moment then all of sudden fall into the depths of depression, then there is the possibility that they may be suffering from bipolar disease with bipolar symptoms present. There are false myths about bipolar disease and bipolar symptoms harbored by most people and that is why the truth about bipolar disorder must be known.

The Truth About Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder is also popularly known as manic depression. As the name indicates, the symptoms of this disorder are characterized with periods of euphoria or mania alternating with periods of depression. These periods are not just fleeting phases. They last for hours, days and months. Moreover these radical mood changes also hamper the ability of the individual to lead a normal day to day life.

In the mania phase, the patient may feel a burst of energy, may paint, sing or dance or quit his job or shop like a madman. The mania phase is characterized by the patient feeling euphoric for no apparent reason.

The depression phase on the other hand can be characterized by symptoms of low or no energy. A person suffering from this phase may be completely depressed about everything, wallow in self pity and be very lethargic for no reason.

These days bipolar disorder is quite a common affliction affecting almost 3% of the adult population in the US. Researches are going on to ascertain its true causes though its been linked to genetics and family history.

Its often observed that the onset of bipolar disorder takes place in the late teenage or early adult years. Hence, initially most people mistake the bipolar symptoms in teens as a typical adolescent behavior and dont pay much attention which makes the symptoms worse. Hence, early prognosis of this disease can enable the patient to lead a healthy life.

People suffering from bipolar disease and the bipolar symptoms were often referred to as "mad" in the early days. Another perception was that they were possessed by evil spirits. However, many of these myths have been shattered with the advancement of technology.

Here are some old myths about bipolar disorder which were prevalent till recently:

Patients with bipolar disorder can no longer have a good life: This myth is absolutely false since people over the world afflicted with bipolar disorder can lead normal lives and have children and a great family. All that is required is a good support system and a good coping ability to manage the symptoms when they occur.

There is always an alternation between mania and depression for patients with bipolar disorder " Both these phases occur with bipolar disorder but there tends to be more of an occurrence of depression rather than mania. Mania is so mild most of the time that its hardly noticeable. There are also several instances where patients may not experience any symptoms for some time.

Medicines and therapy can be used to treat bipolar disease and bipolar symptoms. But even with these conventional cures, the unconditional love and support of loved ones is very important in ensuring a normal life for someone suffering from the disease.

Ten Sensible Ways to Reduce Your Waistline.

Losing a few pounds doesn't have to be a chore or expensive, either. As long as you can read the labels on the foods you purchase, you can be mindful of your intake of things such as fat, carbohydrates, sugars, etc. If you're disciplined enough, it doesn't have to cost you any more than you would normally spend at the grocery store. Here are ten practical things to keep in mind if shedding a few pounds is a priority:

1. Avoid processed foods like the plague. Fast food is a killer -- literally. So are things like cakes, ice creams, sodas, and candies. These foods often contain hidden fat and sugar.

2. Exercise more. This will help to burn fat and control your appetite. Walk, jog, swim, ride a bike; anything that will get your heart pumping. If your current health condition prohibits anything strenuous, consult with your doctor.

3. Be conscious of your fat and carb intake. Obviously, if both of these are high, you're going to gain weight. You want to find the right balance based on your daily calorie intake. Cut back slightly on one until you see the results you want. You can't cut both out completely. That's not healthy either. You need to maintain certain fats in your diet to help break down others.

4. Reduce your fat intake. This is not as difficult as it may seem. A pair of kitchen scissors works wonders. Let's say you have a passion for chicken. Skinless is better, especially if you like your chicken fried. Before you cook it, trim the visible fat. Reduce your intake of red meat and start buying lower-fat varieties of fish, turkey, pork, etc.

5. Cut out the sugar. Again, read the labels, and if you have to add it to your food, do so sparingly.

6. Watch your alcohol consumption. This relates to the previous paragraph. Lots of sugar.

7. Don't starve yourself during the day. Don't think that not eating will give you free reign at dinner. Not a good idea. If you do this, you'll tend to eat more. Keep yourself satisfied during the day by eating several small meals, but make sure they contain lots of fruits and vegetables.

8. Occupy your time. Get yourself a hobby. If you have something that will divert your attention, you'll have less time to think about food.

9. Switch to healthy foods. Eat raw fruits and vegetables as often as possible. Avoid fried and processed foods. Natural foods will provide you with the fat-burning qualities you need.

10. Reduce your portion sizes. You'll find that a lower-fat diet will leave you feeling less satisfied. This is because you're not taking in the foods that filled you up before. You may find the need to snack more. If that's the case, just pick things that are satisfying but healthy. A Twinkie is not a good substitute for celery.

Just remember not to make any drastic changes at first. Ease into things slowly and see what works best for you. Soon you'll discover that low fat does not have to equate to low taste.

This Fascinating History of Chicken Stew

Chicken stew is a delicious, warming meal. It is simple to make and you can make a lot of different variations of this tasty dish. Chicken stew actually has a fascinating history and this dish has been enjoyed for many centuries.

A stew is a combination of two or more foods simmered in a liquid. Coq au vin, Hungarian goulash, beef bourguignon, and beef stroganoff are all examples of stews.

The oldest cookbook ever found, the "Apicius de re Coquinaria", contains stew recipes, although these are fish and lamb stews rather than chicken stews. The identity of the author is unknown although there were three Romans with that name between 1 BC and 2 AD and the book is believed to date from that era.

It is possible to go back even further. Primitive tribes boiled foods together, which is what a stew is. Amazonian tribes used turtle shells to cook in and boiled the turtle entrails with other ingredients. Clam shells and similar were used by other cultures as cooking pots. This kind of cookery is proved to go back seven or eight thousand years with the archeological evidence we have access to. Pottery was invented about ten thousand years ago and this would have made cooking easier, especially dishes like stew.

Chicken has been domesticated for thousands of years and chicken stew recipes have been enjoyed throughout history too. Different cultures have different types of chicken stews. Examples include spicy Indian curry chicken stew and the chicken in black bean sauce, which is favored in Cuba.

Different Types of Chicken Stew

One type of chicken stew, which is a couple of hundred years old, is chicken booyah. This is like a thick soup or a thin stew and is eaten in northeast Wisconsin. The first Belgian immigrants came to Wisconsin in 1853 and they spoke a language called Walloon, which is nothing like English or French. It is thought that the Belgian wrote down booyah because he did not know how to spell bouillon and the name stuck.

Southern Chicken Stew

You might have heard of southern chicken stew too and it is still a very popular dish in some states, especially North Carolina. To make this dish, a whole chicken is parboiled in a milk or cream based broth and butter, salt, and pepper are added as well as other ingredients. This stew varies from thin to thick in consistency and from white to yellow in color, depending on the amount of butter or margarine used. Saltine crackers are often served with this dish.

Southern chicken stew is often served in the coolest months of the year and the phrase "chicken stew" can refer to the gathering itself rather than the food. A chicken stew recipe is usually thought of as a comfort food because these recipes are cheap to make, enjoyed by nearly everybody and they are warming and flavorful. This is a common dish served at social gatherings such as church fellowships, family reunions, and community fundraisers.

The chicken stew at these events will often be made in a big cast iron or stainless steel cooking pot, maybe outdoors over an open fire. You might get coleslaw, a grilled cheese sandwich or rice served with the chicken stew.

Tips for Making Delicious Stew Recipes

When the weather is cold and your family is craving something thick and warming, how about making a delicious stew? A stew is a mixture of solid foods such as meat or fish and vegetables, which have been cooked slowly or simmered in liquid to combine the flavors well. The liquid is served as well as the chunky bits.

Popular ingredients to use in stew recipes include chicken, seafood, meat, potatoes, fish, beans, fruit, and carrots. You can use bouillon, water, beer, or wine in the stew liquid and seasonings give the dish more flavor.

Is Stew the Same as Soup?

Stewing is often used for cheap, tough meat cuts because stewing is the only way to make them tender. A stew has larger pieces of meat, fish, or vegetables than a soup and there is more of those and less liquid than you would get in a soup.

Stew is served as a main dish rather than as an appetizer and always contains chunky ingredients. Soup can be served as pureed liquid only without any bits in and is always served in a bowl or deep dish. A chunky stew can be served on a plate.

How to Make Stew More Interesting

There is a limit to how flavorful a combination of meat, vegetables and water can be, which is why it is useful to know how to make your stew recipes flavorful.

Stew is a very versatile dish and can work well with many different combinations of meat, vegetables, liquids, herbs, and spices. It is a good idea to season your stew meat with plenty of salt and pepper before searing them in a hot pan.

You might want to roll the meat in flour to thicken up the stew. Meat chunks should be browned all over before you add them to the liquid. This means they will not dry out. This applies whichever type of meat you are using - chicken, beef, pork, or something else.

The next thing to do is saut your vegetables before adding wine, water, broth, juice, or another liquid. You need to scrape the bottom of the pan to get any stuck on bits off and mix them into the liquid. This adds lots of flavor. Put the meat back into the pan with the vegetables and liquid and cook it slowly until the flavors are well combined and everything is tender.

You should check the stew now and then to see if it needs more liquid, more seasoning, or a stir. When it is cooked, you can add some parsley, crumbled bacon, cider, or lemon juice to liven up the flavor. You can serve it with some warm bread on the side for mopping up the tasty juices.

It is fun to make stew and extremely simple too. Whether you want to make a traditional Irish stew or a Moroccan chicken stew, as long as you follow the above tips your stew should be very nice.

Survival in the NICU

On August 1st, our lives changed quite dramatically. I set foot into a place that I didn't even know exist, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. My son, had been born premature ten weeks earlier than his due date. Reflecting on this scary and eventful experience, I would like to share the things I learned, in order to help any who might be taking their first steps into the NICU.

First worrisome part of the environment surrounding the NICU for me was the constant dinging of bells and alarms that go off. I was sure that my son was in cardiac arrest, or had stopped breathing. Only this was not the case.

The nurses use all these sounds to simply understand what is going on with all the different babies they are caring for at the time. The dings mean merely that the oxygen is slightly lower than they want it, or the IV fluid needs refilled. When the alarms are sounding for something that is serious, you will know by their sound of urgency and the quick response by several nurses to your baby's aid.

I was also worried about the nurses going from baby to baby with so many of them suffering from contagious infections. I soon learned that every person in the NICU, including visitors, must take precious care to stay sanitary by washing their hands very frequently. They also hospital grade hand sanitizer very accessible all over the NICU.

Since the nurses do have so many babies to watch, they can't always come talk to you as soon as you need them too. To help with this, it's good to let them know what times of day is best for you to come and then they can expect you. You may not always have the same nurses everyday, but they spend an hour passing information to each other at the changing of shifts, so that all the nurses will know when you are to come.

Also, when they know when you are coming they can arrange for other people to come and help you with all that is available there. For example, you can set up with a lactation specialist to help you get breast milk for your baby. This is most useful since it has been proven that when babies are fed breast milk in the NICU they will go home much faster.

Many specialists are available to help you learn all the unique tools you will need to care for your special baby. NICU babies do need special care and attention. These NICU workers are so interested in helping you that they get to know your situation personally and remember what skills you have learned and what you have yet to learn.

Kangaroo Care is offered to help the parent and baby bond together, along with helping the baby learn by the guidance of the parent's body how to keep a consistent body temperature and heart rate. I also was trained in the techniques of baby massage, for calming and soothing the baby. First Aid was perhaps the most useful of all these training experiences.

I am hoping that your NICU experience will be much more than anxiety. You and your spouse can come away with a very useful learning experience if all these elements of the NICU are utilized to the fullest. These classes and services not only help time go faster by giving you something to look forward too, but it also helps you feel more prepared for the homecoming. It will allow you to feel all the important feelings of joy and excitement when your child finally comes into the safety of your home.
